Overview

A leading UK tea producer required an automated solution for the efficient handling and emptying of bagged tea ingredients. The objective was to increase production efficiency, reduce manual handling, improve operator safety, and maintain high housekeeping standards within the ingredient intake area.

To meet these requirements, Entecon Industries Ltd designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned a twin Automatic Sack Opener (ASO) system. The installation provides a reliable and controlled method of transferring tea ingredients from sacks into the downstream manufacturing process, supporting consistent production while reducing operator involvement.

Customer Requirements

The customer required a sack handling solution that could:

  • Process a range of bagged tea ingredients and food-grade raw materials.
  • Reduce manual sack emptying and associated operator workload.
  • Minimise dust emissions within the production environment.
  • Improve workplace cleanliness and housekeeping standards.
  • Provide a consistent feed of materials to downstream processing equipment.
  • Integrate seamlessly with existing manufacturing operations.
  • Support reliable operation in a demanding food production environment.

The Entecon Solution

The client and Entecon developed the design criteria which includes:

  • Improving the material handling process and contain dust / clean GMP operation
  • Enhancing throughput and meeting the production capacity of 300 sacks per hour
  • Reducing manual labour and associated risks
  • Ensuring compatibility with client's existing production line

Installation and Commissioning

The equipment was installed within the customer's operational tea processing facility with minimal disruption to ongoing production activities.

Entecon's engineers carried out the installation, commissioning, system testing and operator training, ensuring a smooth transition from manual handling to automated operation. Following commissioning, the system was fully integrated into the customer's manufacturing process and delivered reliable day-to-day performance.

Why Automatic Sack Openers for Tea Manufacturing?

Tea manufacturers often process large quantities of bagged ingredients that require safe, hygienic and efficient emptying. Manual sack emptying can be labour intensive, generate dust and create inconsistencies in material handling.

Entecon's Automatic Sack Openers automate this process, helping manufacturers improve dust control, reduce manual handling, maintain product quality and provide a consistent feed of ingredients into downstream processing equipment.

Key Benefits

The new automated sack handling system provides:

  • Increased material handling efficiency.
  • Reduced manual labour and improved workplace safety.
  • Improved dust containment and housekeeping.
  • Consistent product discharge and process feed.
  • Reliable operation for continuous production environments.
  • Enhanced hygiene standards within the manufacturing facility.
  • Reduced operator involvement in routine sack emptying tasks.

Conclusion

The successful installation of two Entecon Automatic Sack Openers demonstrates how automated ingredient handling technology can improve efficiency, cleanliness and reliability within tea manufacturing operations.

By replacing manual sack emptying with a fully automated solution, the customer gained a dependable and scalable method of handling bagged tea ingredients while supporting long-term production requirements and future growth.
